Dying Heart

“If I can stop one heart from breaking, I shall not live in vain.”

Emily Dickinson

Dear Heart,

I have failed you again. I am burying you so deep this time around I won’t be able to later find you and cause you continuous harm. I was born under an earth sign, so to the earth you shall go. I am not worthy enough to mend your open wounds. I am selfish and impatient. I would shoddily patch you up, and hand you back to another. Another who would rip off your makeshift patches to cover their own heart’s open wounds. You would then be rejected and returned back to me, more crushed, torn , and ripped apart. I am not strong enough to protect you. Farewell Heart, you are too soft, warm, and vulnerable for the likes of me.
